MECOS can offer a full set of components for Active Magnetic Bearings for various applications. With our competence and experience we develop customer specific parts for various needs.
Pre-assembled AMB cartridge
The AMB cartridge is a customer specific part. Depending on the needs it contains the radial bearing stator, touch down bearings and the sensor unit. An axial bearing can also be incorporated. The cartridge allows a fast assembly at customer site.
Radial Bearing Stator
The radial bearing stator consists of several electromagnet pairs (coils), which are positioned arround the rotor. Lamination stacks are usually shrunk onto the rotor, to reduce eddy current losses due to the high speeds. Radial bearings can either be hetro-polar or homo-polar.
Axial Bearing and Thrust Disc
The axial bearing uses two ring shaped electromagnets positioned on each side of a thrust disk. The thrust disk is a solid ferromagnetic disk as part of the rotor. The axial bearing positions the rotor in the axial direction. The specific design of such a bearing is based in the space and speed requirements. There are different arrangement concepts for the axial bearings and the thrust disk.
Sensor units
MECOS sensors are the result of long standing experience with eddy current or inductive sensor technology and are available in different sizes. They exactly meet the requirements of AMB's such as wide operating temperature range, high precision, insensitivity to external magnetic fields, ruggedness and low cost.
Touchdown bearings
The touchdown bearings hold the rotor during standstill and protect the rotor in the very unlikely event of a control unit failure during normal operation. Touchdown bearings prevent severe damage of the system in case of overload and rare system errors.
Rotor parts
MECOS designs lamination stacks, the sensor target, the thrust disk and the touchdown landing sleeves are shrunk onto the rotor. The rotor and the thrust disk can also be lathed or manufactured out of one piece.
